Biology : Large shrub, or rarely small tree, 1-4(-6) m tall, with long trailing or climbing branches, striate, densely pubescent when young, later glabrescent with corky bark and raised lenticels; stipules deciduous.
Ecology : Open deciduous woodland; forest margins; on dry sandy soil; 30-580 m alt. Variable species: climbing shoots may differ from non-climbing ones. Closely related to (or conspecific with) H. busseana. S. Africa (NE Transvaal).
