Biology : Deciduous tree 5-15(-20) m; dbh to 60 cm and to 1,5 m in girth; bark peeling off in papery flakes; flowers appearing before the new foliage.

Ecology : Savanna; Acacia-Commiphora woodland; wooded grassland and bushland; characteristic of stony hills; rocky slopes or black cotton soil; dry deciduous riverine and savanna forest; sandy or gravelly soils; laterite; 500(and less?)-1900 m alt.
