Ecology and distribution
Trop. Afr.
Biology : Tree to >40 m; bole to 60-80 cm ?and 3 m in girth, irregularly, ±profoundly fluted; bark reddish-brown, shaggy, peeling off in large flakes; branchlets with bark splitting lengthwise; bark when slashed exuding a sticky brownish sap with sickly sweet scen.

Ecology : Rain-forest, fresh-water swamp forest; riversides, edges of lagoons; coastal; 1-600 m alt. Fruit production and elephant movements have been reported. Fernando Poo (Bioko). Near S. amazonia Mart. from the Lesser Antilles and N South America.
