Biology : Perennial herb with annual stems from a woody rootstock; flowers developing before the leaves on the first shoots, and some purely vegetative leafy shoots appearing later in the growing season; stems 20-45 cm tall.

Ecology : Brachystegia woodland, open grassy areas. – Flowers as a rule just before the rains but only expands its leaves fully during the rainy season; 1000 m alt. Near T. welwitschii.
