Ecology and distribution
Trop. Afr.
Biology : Annual herb, soft, watery, with ascending unbranched stems, 0,2-1,2(-2) m long, woody in lower part; fruit a berry with long persistent tepals. – Resembling B. sonderiana but has large stipules and hard spiny buds.
Ecology : Rain- and gallery forest; riverbanks, wet rocks, near waterfalls; 300-2300 m alt. Fernando Poo (Bioko); Madagascar.
