Leafless dioecious shrub with mostly pendulous branches <0,5- >1 m long; distal branches flattened, 2-3(-4) mm wide; fruit pedicellate, smooth, orange. |

Coastal and riverine forest; river banks; woodland in higher rainfall areas, edges of montane forest; on various hosts (e.g. Gardenia, Prunus africana, Albizia), commonly Bridelia at higher altitudes. |

Very variable species, in: size, length and width of internodes, size of fruit; with a certain geographical pattern. |

near sea-level -900-1750 m alt.(Mozambique).. Related to V. congdonii but differs by narrower ultimate internodes and smaller fruits. |
