Biology : Caulescent perennial herb 5-50 cm tall, with a small basal, ±globose, brown-hairy tuber; stem mostly leafy throughout but sometimes with a pair of large leaves at the base, appressed to the ground, and with a ±leafless scape.

Ecology : Woodland and bush; in rock crevices near waterfalls, on steep rocky river banks; on termite-hills in shady Brachystegia woodland; steep damp shady rocky slopes of escarpments; in loamy (or sandy) soil; 800-2150 m alt.
  Variable species in growth form and leaf shape.
