Biology : Acaulescent herb with orange rhizome; leaves 1-5, erect-spreading, sometimes twisting, lanceolate, to 40x6 cm, 2 mm thick, apex acute, base narrowed into a pseudopetiole with keel 4 mm thick, dark green cross-banding with dense lighter grey-green blotches, smooth and glossy above, dull and rough beneath, margins fibrous, chestnut brown, apex acute; inflorescence simple, spike-like, stalk 15-24 cm long, 5 mm Ø; with flowers in upper ¾, dense, 1(-2) per node, 3,8-5,2 cm long, greenish white with purple lines; tube 1,8-2,1 cm long; lobes convolute, 2-2,6 cm long; fruit not described.
Ecology : Ecology unknown.
  Known only from the type (originated from seed) and cultivated specimens. It has been sighted by L. E. Newton in the Kivuko Hills, also in SE Kenya (type locality of S. ballyi).
