Ecology : Rocky and sandy places, road-sides, cultivaded ground; near sea-level (E Africa) – Thickets around ponds, silted-up sandstone scree. The true Cleome arabica L. 1755 does not occur in trop. Africa.
  Cape Verde Isl.; Arabia, Socotra, India, eastwards to tropical Australia; adventice in the New World.
