Ecology and distribution
Trop. Afr.
Biology : Deciduous tree (3-)10-20 m, or large shrub; bole tall, ± crooked, to 1 m Ø; crown rounded; bark smooth, pale grey, flaking off when old in thin scales, leaving reddish brown patches;
Ecology : Deciduous woodland (Brachystegia or Combretum and Terminalia associations), wooded grassland; in bushy stony places, rather rare (Angola); 700-1700 m alt. (fa. angolensis), 200-750 m (fa. brasseuriana).
  Variable in size, shape and indumentum of pod, in puhescence of leaves, and in colour of flowers.
  Comprises 2 forms: - fa. angolensis [syn.: P. angolensis subsp. angolensis fa. intermedia intermedia Yakovl.]; - fa. brasseuriana (De Wild.) Brummitt [syn.: Afrormosia brasseuriana (De Wild.) De Wild.; A. schliebenii Harms; A. angolensis
  Sometimes confused with Dalbergiella nyassae.
