Biology : Succulent perennial herb, with a thick fleshy rhizomatous rootstock; stems several, erect 0,5-0,8-1,5 m, sparsely branched, cylindrical, 10-15 mm thick, with 4 longitudinal grooves below each of the numerous spirally arranged leaf-scars;
Ecology : Rocky slopes with low open scrub and succulent species; grassland on hardpan soils; Acacia-Commiphora bushland; sandy soils; 50-1735 m alt.
  Comprises 2 forms.
  Generally of easy culture.
