Biology : Erect annual, usually ephemeral herb, 2,5-15(-35) cm, with branched or unbranched 4-angled stems.

Ecology : Wet patches in grassland and seepage zones, black cotton soil, thin red soil on lava outcrops and granite, vleis and rivulets on damp mud; usually associated with small Cyperaceae; abandoned rice cultivations, salt-marshes; 0-1800 m alt.
