Biology : Aquatic floating annual herb with dimorphic leaves; floating leaves in rosette at upper nodes, with swollen spongy petiole and rhomboic blade; submerged leaves linear, entire, caducous; adventitious roots developping from leaf scars of submerged leaves.
Ecology : Quiet base-rich water, lakes, without too much calcium; swamps, pans; 0-1200m alt. S. Africa, Cameroon; India?, Indochina, Vietnam, Japan;
