Biology : Perennial climbing or prostrate herb, sometimes forming mats, 0,1-2 m long; main rootstock rather slender but tough; stems slander, often rooting at the nodes, sparsely to rather densely covered with mostly spreading hairs.
Ecology : Grassland; grassland with scattered trees; thicket; forest; sometimes weed in cultivations; dambos; forest margins; grassy clearings; pathways; savanna; 270-2700 m alt.
  Variable species; further studies needed; intermediates between V. parkeri and V. hosei occur.
  Only subsp. maranguensis in tropical Africa; subsp. parkeri in Madagascar.
  Material from Angola and Cameroon (without fruit) is perhaps conspecific with V. gracilis.
