Biology : Climber or twiner or ascending herb 0,2-1 m long and more with slender ramose stems from a tuberous rootstock; stems glabrescent to densely covered with long silvery or ferruginous appressed or spreading hairs.

Ecology : Rocky places; sporadic in shortly-bushy pastures with various species of Crotalaria; granitic screes; sometimes abundant in Acacia seyal zone; open woodland of Acacia, Combretum, etc. with Themeda grassland; etc...
  R. totta is a very variable complex (see varities below); intermediates between the varieties exist.
  Botswana, Namibia, S. Africa, Swaziland; Yemen.
