Biology : Annual herb, generally erect, stiff, often branched from the stout, with scars of fallen leaves, c. 60 cm high.
Ecology : Cultivated ground, roadsides, grassland, woodland; particularly on sandy soils; dry rocky places (Kenya); 900-1800 m alt. Extremely variable: comprises 4 vars. S. Africa; pantropical.
