Ecology : Usually in disturbed situations; rocky and gravelly ground, silty basins and wadis, abandoned fields; 600-2100 m alt. S Europa; Middle East, Arabia, Iran, India; Canary Isl.; N Africa, Libya, Egypt, Socotra. Polymorphic.
  Naturalised in many parts of the world. Spontaneous in Ethiopia?
