Biology : Shrub 1-3(-5) m tall, much-branched, evergreen; young twigs red or blackish, scarcely flattened or angular with raised lines decurrent from the petiole bases, becoming rounded and brown; the only mainland species with setose fimbriate stipules.
Ecology : Damp shady places; 0-1200 m alt. Variable species, each population tending to differ from the others. Madagascar.
Biol./Eco : Shrub; distribution: Africa.
