Biology : Shrub 1-2 m tall, with flattened branches when young, becoming rounded; flowers solitary in axils of fallen leaves (cf. N. kaessneri); fruit not known.
Ecology : Ecology not recorded. Only known from the type. According to Verdcourt (F.T.E.A., Erythrox.: 8, 1984), N. kaessneri might be a variant of N. carvalhoi, but further material is needed to elucidate the eventual relationships.
