Biology : Shrubby herb; stem erect, height not known; leaves spirally arranged, spreading, recurved, closely placed, with sheaths embracing one another at base, linear(-lanceolate), 34-40x1,6-2,5 cm, 2,5-3 mm thick, dark green, narrowed to a c. 4,2 mm long brown hard spine-like tip, margin red-brown with white membranous edge, surface smooth; inflorescence a terminal panicle c. 50 cm long, with c. 17 branches, lower branches to 25 cm long, with secondary branches on 3-4 lower branches in large inflorescences; with 15-20 flower clusters per branch, c. 6 flowers per cluster; flowers cream-white, 1,2-1,5 cm long, tube 0,5-0,7x1,1 cm, lobes 0,5-0,6 cm long; fruit globose.
Ecology : Open forest; coastal bushland, in half-shade; in dense shade in a thicket of trees and shrubs; in large clumps; 0-400 m alt.
  Are S. arborescens and S. bagamoyensis conspecific ?
