Biology : Spreading annual herb, subglabrous or sparsely pilose, with decumbent or ascending stems 15-35 cm long; branching from the base; corolla yellow, 4-5 mm long; pod of 3-7 (c. 5) coils, glabrous, with hooked spines.

Ecology : Grassland, woodland, disturbed ground; 1150-2200 m alt. (1150-1725 m in Somalia); short dry grassland, pastures especially where seasonally water logged, rainfall 600-900 m p.a.; 1500-2550 (E. Africa). etc...
  Canary Isl.; Madeira; N. Africa; Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, S. Africa; S. Yemen, Socotra, SW Asia to Pakistan-India (Punjab). - Introduced in other areas with "mediterranean" climate. [see more in the book]
