Ecology and distribution

Biology : Herb with ovoid corm, 1-2 cm Ø; leaves 1-5, linear, acuminate, to 10x1 cm at base, margins membranous, ± dentate; scape thread-like, 3-12 cm long, 2-8-flowered; flowers white, inner side of tepals with dark violaceous striations; tepals 6, to 2,5x0,7 cm; capsule ovoid-subglobular, c. 1,5-1,3 cm, dehiscent [indehiscent = A. europaeum (Lange) K. Richt., in ? Morocco, Spain].
Ecology : Reg; source; clayey grara with Euphorbia balsamifera, E. echinus; sometimes very abundant in coastal graras; rocky pasture.
  Has been confused with A. palaestinum in Egypt (syn.: A. gramineum sensu Täckholm & Drar 1954, Täckholm 1974, Boulos 1995; cf. Boulos, Fl. Egypt 4: 33, 2005).
