Ecology : Many types of woodland; wooded grassland and bushland, often riparian; gallery forest; open forest; dry coastal belt; rocky places; sandy humid place; 0-2400 m alt. Madagascar; Mascarene Isl.; Seychelles; India, SE Asia, China.
  Confusion with Oncoba spinosa possible when specimens are sterile, but petiole pubescent. Extremely variable.
