Biology : Shrub or tree 2-6(-10) m tall, much-branched, very spiny especially in juvenile state; spines stout to 6 cm long, 5 mm ?at base, sometimes absent in older trees.
Ecology : Mixed scrub; riverine bush; open (often disturbed) woodland; dune forest, mainly coastal. – Also cultivated. S. Africa.
