Biology : Shrub or tree to 12 m tall; branches armed with horizontal strong spines to 9 cm long by 3 mm wide at base.
Ecology : Coastal forest or transition to “thornfeld” scrub; also in secondary vegetation; sandy soil; fixing the dunes; 0-200 m alt. S. Africa (Natal).
