Biology : Tuber globular or ovoid to 3 cm Ø; leaves emerged or submerged, 4-43 cm long, mostly without a distinct blade, needle-shaped
Ecology : Locally frequent in shallow water (mostly less than 15 cm deep) in pools, swamps, flood plains, seasonally inundated grassland, muddy banks of rivers and pools; sometimes with another species of Aponogeton (at least in S. Africa); often at high altitudes.
  Tubers eaten raw (cf. C. R. Peters in J. Timberlake & S. Kativu, eds., African plants: biodiversity, taxonomy and uses: 488-490, 1999).
  Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, S. Africa (45-3300 m alt.).
