Biology : Much-branched shrub, or tree, deciduous, with pendulous branches, 1-9 m tall, multistemmed or with a fluted trunk (variable in shape and size); crown rounded; branches rather stiff, usually spiny, spines rather stout, 5-14 cm long, arising 0,5-1,2(-2,6).

Ecology : Dry bushy or open woodland; deciduous bushland and scrub on sandy or alluvial soils; (saline) alluvial flood plains or dark hard-pan, amongst scattered trees often near luggas; 1-1450(-1700) m alt. S. Africa, Swaziland.
