Ecology : Usually on rain-forest floors or in clearings, in light to dense shade, often near swamps or streams; also a weed of disturbed areas, cultivation or roadsides; 1-1360 m alt. Comprises 2 vars. Pantropical in the Old World; Central & S. America.
