Biology : Perennial herb, simple in reduced forms but usually with loose open mats in age, with profuse, lateral, ascending or stem and branches slender; rootstock a tuber, spherical to large, parsnip-shaped, to ± 15 cm long.

Ecology : Frequent in dambos or seasonally wet grassland, also in Brachystegia / Julbernardia or Brachystegia / Isoberlinia woodland; also on ore from gallery mine; damp sand and black soil by rivers, damp shallow soil on sandstone; 1000-1600 m alt.
