Biology : Glabrous shrub 1-7 m tall often with climbing branches or liane 15-20 m long; stems 4-angled or with paired ridges, green or purplish, becoming terete, dark purplish grey, smooth, or rough with conspicuous raised lenticels.
Ecology : Evergreen forest; forest edges; forest gallery; semi-deciduous forest; bushy places along streams.
  1-2400 m alt.
  S. Africa. Not in Benin (= S. cornifolia).
