Biology : Herb creeping on rocks or on tree roots sometimes forming a dense mass; stems to 5 m long with numerous aerial roots opposite leaves; leaves numerous, distichous, well spaced on stem, oblong-elliptic, 6-16x1,5-4,5 cm, apex unequally 2-lobed; inflorescences axillary, 4-20 cm long, 1-2(-4)-flowered; flower tepals greenish, oblong-narrowly elliptic, acute, 3-3,5-6x0,4-1,2 cm; lip white with green throat, broadly obovate-orbicular, apiculate, 2,5-5x2,5-5 cm, side lobes projecting forward; spur c. 3,5 cm long, funnel-shaped at first, restricted at middle, finally widely cylindrical.
Ecology : Undisturbed forest; riverine forest; forest with Gilbertiodendron dewevrei; forest fringes of inselbergs, in very humid valleys; Atlantic forest with Caesalpiniaceae; plantations; on shrubs together with Microgramma owariensis, mosses, lichens; on decaying wood or on trees from low down to the forest canopy, on large branches; on Crescentia cajute, Theobroma cacao; on Irvingia smithii, Lasiodiscus mannii; 5-1100 m alt.

  Comprises 2 vars.: - var. eichlerianum [syn.: A. arnoldianum De Wild.], with a straight spur and dorsal sepal > 4 cm long; - var. curvicalcaratum Szlach. & Olszewski [syn.: Eichlerangraecum eichlerianum var. curvicalcaratum (Szlach. & Olszewski) Szalch., Mytnik & Grochocka] with a curved spur and dorsal sepal < 4 cm long, in Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon. Resembling A. birrimense.
