Biology : Epiphytic, sometimes lithophytic herb 10-30 cm tall; pseudobulbs densely clustered on rhizome, cylindrical-conical, 1,5-9-14x0,5-1 cm, ribbed, covered with 2-4 leaf sheaths at base; leaves 2-4, oblong, 5-20x0,6-1,8 cm, bright green shining, apex unequally and obtusely 2-lobed; inflorescence 3-5-20 cm long, densely 25-200-flowered, simple or with 1 branch 3 cm long at base; peduncle 9 cm long, subtended by a flattened sheath, densely pubescent like rhachis; flowers tiny, ciliolate outside, whitish with purple, very fragrant (of primrose); bracts setaceous, 2-9 mm long; pedicel and ovary 2-4 mm long, arched, glabrous; tepals acuminate; dorsal sepal ovate, thin, 2-4x1-1,5 mm, laterals triangular, 2-5x3 mm; lip shortly clawed, 2-4x1-3 mm, 3-lobed in apical half, with an apical fleshy and hairy callus at junction of lobes, lobes rounded; spur (mentum) sacciform, c. 2 mm long.
Ecology : Rain-forest, evergreen forest, secondary forest; well-drained gallery forest; fringing forest at swamp edge; swampy formations; high rainfall Brachystegia woodland; termitaria; high-level epiphyte on trees; often on Adansonia digitata, Prunus africana, Brachystegia boehmii, palm trunks; on rocks; 0-2620 m alt.
  Related to P. stuhlmannii, P. moniquetiana, P. polychaete (key in Syst. Geogr. Pl. 73: 283, 2003).
