Biology : Epiphytic herb; pseudobulbs 0,5-3,5 cm apart, 2-leaved, ovoid-ellipsoid, 1-5x0,5-1,5 cm, flattened, sometimes 2-4-angled, green, often purple-spotted; leaves oblong-lanceolate, 1,5-5x0,5-1,5 cm, leathery; inflorescence 2-40 cm long, 8-60-flowered; peduncle 1-23 cm long, glabrous or with fine dark hairs; rachis erect or pendent, 1-28 cm long, with fine dark hairs; bracts elliptic, 2-5,5x1,5-3 mm; flowers distichous, spreading, dark red or yellow-green with purple-brown markings; sepals triangular, 2-5x1-3 mm; petals linear-lanceolate, 1,5-3x0,25-0,6 mm; lip recurved, ovate, 1-1,5x1 mm.
Ecology : Evergreen forest; forest; mangrove forest (var. filiforme); on high branches of tall trees, on e.g., Carapa grandiflora, Entandrophragma utile; 0-150-1450 m alt.
  Length of inflorescence very variable (see Vermeulen, 1987: p. 121). Similar to B. scaberulum, also B. parvum.
  Comprises 2 vars.: - var. resupinatum, with short inflorescences and glabrous or papillose tepals without dark hairs; - var. filiforme (Kraenzl.) J. J. Verm. [syn.: Enum. 3: 121, 1995; B. macrostachyum Kraenzl.] with short or long inflorescences and tepals with fine dark hairs.
