Biology : Terrestrial herb; tubers underground, irregularly shaped; leaves erect, folded, lanceolate, to 40x2-5,5 cm, subtended at base by 2 sheaths forming a pseudo-stem; inflorescence to 75 cm tall, densely many-flowered; peduncle covered by paper-like tubular sheaths; bracts ± lanceolate, 1-3 cm long; flowers spreading, not opening fully, yellow with an orange mark on lip; pedicel and ovary 1-1,5 cm long; sepals lanceolate, 20-30x6-8 mm; petals somewhat shorter; lip 15-18x9-10 mm, 3-lobed at middle; mid-lobe broadly ovate, much longer than side lobes, glabrous (= lacking verrucae, papillae, or hairs); callus of 2 low papillose ridges at base; spur conical, 3-4 mm long.
Ecology : Moorland; pastures; shrubby hillsides; 2250-2600 m alt.
  Differs from E. zeyheri by its glabrous lip.
