Ecology and distribution
Trop. Afr.
Biology : Small, almost stemless, clustered palm; stems about 2-4 m long, with leaves to 9 m long, erect on emergence and slightly arching when mature; leaflets to 100-150 on each side of rachis; inflorescences 4-6, pendant, 1-3 m long; fruits wider at the base and tapering to the apex, 3.5-5.5 cm long, covered by yellow to yellowish-brown scales.
Ecology : Lowland swamp and riparian palm, often associated with shady conditions and extremely high rain fall.
