Biology : Annual or short-lived perennial herb, with decumbent stems, 15-70 cm long (over 1 m in subsp. lupembensis Verdc.), 4- angled, often rooting at nodes.
Ecology : With sedges, Hydrolea, etc., on black soil, edge of permanent water-holes with Pistia, Neptunia, sedges, Dactyloctenium geminatum, etc.; rice-fields; river-banks; 0-700 m alt. Comprises 2 subspp. Madagascar, Comoro Isl., Mascarene Isl., Sri Lanka.
