Ecology and distribution
Trop. Afr.
Biology : Annual erect herb, to 65 cm, stem ± thick, subterete and usually leafless below, branched at the middle, the branches ascending, 4-winged.
Ecology : Wet heavy clayey soils, sticky black soil, red basalt, drying mud, damp roadsides, flooded plains, Brachystegia woodland with Hyparrhenia, Andropogon grassland; 960-1536 m alt. Not in Tanzania (fide F.T.E.A., 1994); subsp. dinteri in Namibia.
