Ecology and distribution
Trop. Afr.
Biology : Perennial plant with numerous ascending and spreading hirsute stems (10-)15-45(-60) cm long from a branched and rhizomatous rootstock; stipules resembling leaflets; flowers large, bright yellow, turning orange; pod many-seeded.
Ecology : Brachystegia woodland in grassy places, upland grassland, often in damp and disturbed places; 1500-2400 m alt. (1500-1750 m, subsp. flava at S end of Lake Tanganyika).
  Variable in indumentum of leaflets.
  Comprises 2 subspp. - Subsp mitwabaensis (Timp.) Polhill with densely silky-hairy leaflets in SE Zaire.
