Biology : Woody erect herb or shrub, much-branched, ± glabrescent, 1,3-3 m tall; stipules absent; flowers large in lax racemes.
Ecology : Margins and clearings of montane rain-forest, bamboo thicket and valley forest; streamsides, disturbed places, secondary associations; 1500-2700 m alt.
  Variable in shape and size of leaflets and pods, and in hairiness and form of the flower keel.
  Comprises 2 subspp.
  Afromontane endemic.
