Biology : Erect or spreading annual or short-lived perennial herb 0,25-1,5 m tall; stems ramose; cylindrical or slightly ridged, stiffly brownish or, occasionally, white pilose;
Ecology : Weed of cultivated and waste places; grassy formations; road sides; humid or temporarily humid sandy soils; stony shortly-bushy pastures; 0-1350 m alt.
  Cape Verde Isl.; Botswana; Madagascar; Sri Lanka, India, Burma, Indochina, Philllipines? New Guinea, N Australia; Trop. America (probably introduced). - The range has certainly been increased by man (grown as a cover-crop, green (manure, forage).
  Comprises 2 vars.
  Often confused with I. astragalina.
