Biology : Mostly erect or sometimes scrambling subshrub with tips twining 0,9-2 m tall, or a distinct climber; stems much branched, woody, reddish-brown, densely puberulous or pubescent when young, later glabrescent and fissured.
Ecology : Grassland; Brachystegia, Julbernardia woodland; open forests; savannas; Uapaca-Brachystegia and chipya woodlands; miombo; bushland; streamside grassland, riverine thicket; often on termite mounds; 530-1830 m alt.
  Comprises 2 vars.
  Climbing specimens confused with R. caribaea.
