Biology : Sticky erect pyrophytic herb or subshrub 0,14-0,6 -1,4 m tall; rootstock 4-6 cm Ø, tough and woody, often horizontal; stems several, branched near the base, sparsely to velvety pubescent and with yellowish glandular hairs as well.

Ecology : Brachystegia woodland; grassland with forest remnants; open Acacia woodland; Terminalia, Isoberlinia, Baphia bushland; burnt grassland and woodland; chipya grassland; dambo margins; often in rocky places; periodically flooded grassland; 1400-2250 m
  Very variable.
  Comprises 2 subspp.: - Subsp. insignis [syn.: R. subaphylla Bak. f.; Eriosema randii Bak. f. & Haydon]; - subsp. affinis (De Wild.) Pauwels [bas.: R. affinis De Wild.].
