Ecology and distribution

Biology : Erect, branched, annual herb 0,5-3 m tall from a taproot; hairs on stems appressed (var. bracteolata) or spreading (var. trigulosa Brummitt) to 1 mm long, white or fulvous; branches long straight thinly silky.
Ecology : Grassland, woodland, chiefly in seasonally swampy places; banded vegetation; sands; sometimes abundant the first year in fallows; sandy-stony places with scanty bush, on poor soil; grassy bank by lake; banks by ditches and flood lains; 540-1700 m alt.
  Caoe Verde Isl.
  Comprises 2 vars. (intermediates occur, although mostly geographically separated).
  The specimen Gossweiler 4260 from Angola is T. rigidula (fide Brummitt).
