Biology : Annual to probably short-lived perennial herb with a stout taproot or sometimes becoming woody at the base, and with ± erect, fairly robust stems, 2-3 mim Ø in the lower parts, usually regularly branched, to 1-1,5 m tall ;
Ecology : River sides; rocky hill in Brachystegia woodland ; sand veld; mopane woodland on karroo basalt; also on granite rocks; escarpment miombo; grassland; dense bush; old sand dunes; 0-1420 m alt.
  S. Africa, Swaziland.
  Comprises 2 subspp. ; subsp. longipes with 2 vars.
  Not in Sudan (sub nom. T. pseudolongipes in Andrews, Fl. pl. Anglo-Egypt. Sudan.).
