Biology : Erect pyrophytic perennial herb, with several to many sparsely branched or unbranched stems from a large napiform woody rootstock 10-20x1,7-3 cm containing red dye; stems of 3-6 internodes, somewhat flattened, 7-75 cm tall, densely ferruginous pubescent.
Ecology : Seasonally burnt grassland; grassland with scattered trees; open Brachystegia woodland; dry dambos; sandy places; hilly almost bushy situations; herb-grown mixed thickets; ± 1200-1825 m alt.
