Ecology and distribution
Trop. Afr.
Biology : Prostrate perennial herb, with several sparsely branched stems from a rootstock consisting of several fusiform tubers to 7 x 1,2 cm; stems slender, to ± 70 cm long, pubescent to velvety and with some longer bristly hairs as well.
Ecology : Deciduous bushland; Brachystegia, Uapaca woodland; cultivations derived from such areas; often on deep sand; seasonally wet grassland on Kalahari sand; short grassland; 780-1500 m alt.
  Comprises 2 vars.
  E. welwitschii Heirn ex Bak. f. and E. tenuiflorum Hiern ex Bak. f. from Angola are perhaps synonyms.
