Ecology : Rare in forest remnants on sandy soil in shallow river valleys; 5-300 m alt.
  Extremely variable.
  Seems to have been well known in coastal Tanzania, but now approaching extinction before its economic value has been assessed. Collected at least 4 times in the 20 years before 1914 but only twice since then.
