Biology : Rhizomatous subshrub with several stems 0,15-1,2 m tall from a woody rootstock, or a shrub with fewer stems 1,2-2 m tall; stems pubescent to densely appressed-silvery-pilose or almost glabrous.

Ecology : On rather dry sparingly bushy hills (very abundant); thickets alongside forests in somewhat sandy places (not scarce but local); open, grassy mixed woods (common); hot sunny situation in red gravelly soil (common); etc...
  Comprises 2 vars.: - Var. megalantha; - var. pilosa (Taub.) De Wild. [bas.: Desmodium megalanthum Taub. var. pilosum Taub.; syn.: Meibomia huillensis Welw. ex Hiern].
  Until better understood the Zambian specimen Milne-Redhead 1107 is placed under D. magalantha var. megalantha.
