Biology : Liane 5-20-40 m long, or scandent shrub to 6 m; all parts glabrous; young stems ± terete, smooth or with 4 low ridges (subsp. newalensis (Blakelock) N. Hallé); plant drying blackish. Seeds known!
Ecology : Rain-forest with Albizia, Macaranga, Croton, Ocotea, Pouteria adolfi-friederici, Schefflera abyssinica near river, forest edges; river banks; edges of forest patches in meadow enclosed in forest; thickets.
