Biology : Annual ascending or erect herb to 1 m high, with a stout rootstock; stems fleshy, becoming woody towards the base, branching mainly from the base.
Ecology : Disturbed sandy and rocky soil in open bushland, waste ground, cultivation, roadsides; alluvial plains; 0-1450 m alt. (1600-2500 m in Kenya). Pantropical (probably originating in the New World fide Thulin).
